There is so much power in prayer. The words you declare over yourself, your situation, your future or the people in your life have the power to make a thing shift from one place to another. The words you declare in the name of Jesus have the power of the Holy Spirit connected to them.

“…[F]or tremendous power is released through the passionate, heartfelt prayer of a godly believer.”

James 5:16 (TPT).

The Bible says that our faith has so much power it fastens onto the promises of God and pulls them into our reality. (See Hebrews 11:33 (TPT)). I believe that in the same way, our prayers can fasten onto the Spirit of God and cause an invisible, but very real, shift in our lives. Prayer alone can take you from one place to another. Prayer alone can turn your entire situation around.

I think the most common uses of prayer are to ask God for protection, to ask Him for the things we desire and to thank him. While these uses each serve a powerful purpose, prayer can be so much more than that. Anxiety can be broken off completely through prayer. Fear can be broken off completely through prayer. Joy can be gained through prayer. Hope can be gained through prayer. Revelation concerning your future can be gained through prayer. Peace can be gained through dedicated and intentional prayer. God transforms us through prayer.

I want us to refine the way we pray in our lives. I challenge you to take something you are currently facing and commit yourself to deepening your prayers about it each day this week. It can be anything - if it matters to you, it matters to God. Ask God to show Himself strong in that area. Ask Him to reveal great and mighty things to you. Declare the word of God over that area over and over again. Cast down everything that is opposite to what God says.

There is no formula. You don’t have to change your voice. You don’t have to change your tone. You don’t have to perform for God. As a child of God, you, as you are, have power sufficient to move mountains in prayer. You just have to believe it and dedicate yourself to showing up even when it feels silly. Remember, James 5:16 says that “passionate” and “heartfelt” prayers release tremendous power. Allow yourself the grace to let down your guard. Take authority. Make it meaningful and watch how God shows up.

You serve a great and mighty God. Cultivate a prayer life that demonstrates that you know that.
