The Perfection of Joy

One of my favorite scriptures is Psalm 16. It’s a beautiful passage, really. David is boasting about the goodness of God – how God keeps him, provides for him, counsels him, and guides him. He then goes on to reveal something so beautifully encouraging: “[i]n your presence is fullness of joy; At your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” See Psalm 16:5-11.

Imagine that. Fullness of joy. One of the definitions of “fullness” is “the state of being filled to capacity.” It is the wholeness. The completeness. The perfection of joy. It does not come from any thing, any person, any opportunity, any accolade or position, but in His presence.

I’ve written a lot about the work of faith – the endurance, the humility, the fire – but I wouldn’t be telling you the full truth if I didn’t also talk about the joy of faith. Your faith has the ability to produce lasting joy no matter the situation or season. While it is true that the walk of the believer is filled with many trials and tribulations – that there’s a level of long-suffering, surrender, endurance, and sacrifice that’s required – there is a joy that flows from the presence of God that exists in the midst of it all. Joy that remains.

There is fullness of joy available to you right now. Joy that you’ve never experienced before because your version of joy has always been attached to something. This is the joy that is unattached to anything – the joy that just is because He dwells in you. No matter what you are going through, no matter what may be happening in your mind, you spirit can always rest in joy – and not just any joy but joy filled to capacity.

Take a moment to imagine who you would be if you were walking in fullness of joy. What would your life be like? What would you do? What might you walk away from or into? You operate differently when you walk in the fullness of joy that is in His presence.

I want you to join me in making the following declaration over the month of June:

Lord, give me a new revelation of joy this month. I declare in the name of Jesus that fullness of joy will be my portion. I declare joy in my mind, in my heart, and in my spirit. I declare that I will walk in the strength that comes from joy. I come against every attempt of the enemy to steal my joy. I declare in the name of Jesus, that this month will be marked by supernatural joy.

If you haven’t already, join the Refine Your Faith community for access to private videos on the subject of “The Perfection of Joy” throughout this month. There’s just something about listening, in addition to reading, that brings this message in particular to life. I hope to see you there.
